Background

The Dashboard tab within the Automated Release Notes (ARN) app offers a detailed summary of your automation tasks, frequently utilized templates and rules, and the current status of rule executions. The informative statistics and data presented on this tab are invaluable for gaining insights into app usage. Additionally, quick actions have been incorporated to allow users easy access directly from the screen.

Let us take look at each of the widgets to understand how to utilize them for optimal productivity.

This is the first version of the Dashboard tab. We aim to add a variety of widgets presenting app usage statistics, releases etc. on this tab. Please feel free to share your feedback and suggestions on our Service desk.

Overview of Dashboard Components

The Dashboard consists of three main widgets:

  • Top 5 Most Used Templates

  • Top 5 Most Used Rules

  • Rule Execution Status

Top 5 Most Used Templates

This widget displays the five most frequently used templates used for automating release notes. For each listed template, this widget shows below elements -

  • Template Name: The name of the ARN template. From the icon, you can understand what type of template it is.

  • Creator: Name of the user who created the template.

  • Usage Count: The number of rule actions where the template is utilized.

All the data is showcased based on the current non-deleted templates and rules. Also, to show the number of rules, all in-project and cross project rules are considered.

Top 5 Most Used Rules

This widget lists the top five rules that are driving the most actions within the ARN app. For each rule listed in this widget, below details are displayed -

  • Rule Name: The name of the automation rule.

  • Creator: The user who created the rule.

  • Action Icons: Icon displayed with each rule indicates the type of actions contained in that rule.

When you look at the dashboard from in-project screen, the data is displayed based on rules in the current project. When you are looking at the dashboard from the cross-project screen, then the data is displayed based on rules in cross project screen.

Rule Execution Status

This widget offers a Rule Execution Status pie chart that provides a visual summary of the execution status of your automation rules over the last 90 days. This widget refers to the logs (logs tab) to generate pie chart The status categories include In Progress, Success, Skipped, and Failure.

  • In Progress: Rules currently being executed.

  • Success: Rules that have been successfully executed.

  • Skipped: Rules that were skipped during execution.

  • Failure: Rules that failed during execution.

For In-project screen dashboard, pie chart is created based on logs of the current project. For Cross-project screen dashboards, it consideres the logs that are created from the cross-project ARN screen.

Best Practices

  • Regularly Review: Frequently check the Dashboard to monitor the performance of your automation rules.

  • Optimize Templates: Use the insights from the "Top 5 Most Used Templates" to optimize and refine commonly used templates.

  • Troubleshoot Failures: Investigate and resolve any failures indicated in the Rule Execution Status to ensure smooth automation processes.

  • No labels
