Planning view

Introduction

Planning view is a board like view where you can easily view multiple Released/Unreleased/Archived release versions. On each card, it shows Issue key, summary, type, priority, assignee, and issue status. Clicking on details shows up the basic release details.

You can also create new versions or sync them with Jira.

How to use Planning view?

On planning view you can easily drag n drop issues from one release to another and plan the release. By default, it shows four Unreleased versions in ascending order of the sequence number (version creation sequence). You can use the below functions to plan releases using the planning view.

Versions

This is a version list that shows versions added/not added to the planning view so you can quickly drag n drop them to the planning view. This is a handy list of versions that you simply want to drag n drop to the planning view.

Or Drag n drop the same version already available in the planning view to compare issues from the same version side by side.

Add a release

Add release is another way to add new versions to the planning view. Unlike the versions list, it only contains the releases not already added to the planning view.

Click on Add a release option. Select the relevant release from the dropdown & add it to the planning view.

Group by

Group by option allows you to group issues by assignee, issue type, etc. attributes of the Jira issues. You can use Exapand/Collapse all option for those groups.

Drag n drop issues in different releases

You can drag n drop individual issues. In case of need to pick multiple issues, click on the cards from one or more releases, notice the card is selection indicated with a small blue check box in the corner.

Now drag any selected card to relevant version and drop. Confirm your action and you are done!

Drag n drop release versions

Like issues, it is also possible to drag and drop entire release version columns and re-organize releases on the planning view. As displayed in the below image, one can drag and drop one/more versions to the planning view. Similarly, releases can be dragged and dropped to the right/left and reorganized.

Issues without versions

As shown in the below images, in both column and horizontal view you can see Issues without versions. This is a handy list of all the issues in the project that do not have any fixed versions assigned. This makes it easy to drag n drop orphan issues to different version columns and assign them versions. You can pick one or more issues at a time and drop to the relevant version.
