Basic company directory attributes

User
Users are the core part of the UpRaise app. Users in UpRaise are imported from Jira and their separate entries are created in the database to connect with other UpRaise user attributes. This user data is then utilized in UpRaise to segment users into groups based on different attributes.
Users who are deactivated or deleted from Jira will be automatically marked as inactive or deleted within UpRaise. Since these users cannot log in to Jira anyway, we don't provide an option to remove them from UpRaise.
Role
UpRaise access is controlled based on different roles. Each one of the users in UpRaise company directory will either hold a role or will have no access to UpRaise. User holds one role at a time. Read UpRaise roles and permissions | UpRaise roles for information. Based on these roles, UpRaise admins can set up specific permissions based on these roles and define what actions users can take based on their roles.
Role defined under UpRaise company directory is limited for UpRaise features, it won't have any bearing on Jira features or features of any other addon.
Designations
Designations are also called as roles. UpRaise allows you to create designations based on your organizational structure. Designations are optional attributes and users can use the app without having a designation. User can hold only one designation at a time.
Manager
Manager is the user who supervises a user or group of users. Manager is again an optional attribute. One user can have only one manager at a time.
Since ‘Manager’ is an attribute of UpRaise, these attributes create following relations with users. These are just terms associated with manager & they do not exist as separate attributes in the app.
Direct reports - Users who report to a manager
Indirect Manager - Manager’s manager.
Example - John reports to Peter & Peter reports to Sam. Here John is Peter's direct report so Peter is John’s direct manager. Since Peter reports to Sam, Sam is John’s indirect manager.
Teams
Teams are the group of users created based on the functional areas or organizational culture. One user can belong to multiple teams and one team can have only one team lead. Teams act as containers of users and this allows UpRaise to create an org hierarchy chart that helps you visualize the structure.
Team type
This is an additional attribute called team type. It lets you treat any team as a group. By using types, you can create multi-level hierarchy for example Department -> Division -> Team -> Sub-team. In essence, UpRaise will treat everything as a Team, whether they are a department or a division or something else will depend on what type they are of. One UpRaise user can be a part of more than one team.
Team lead
Team lead is a user who is responsible to manage the team and its members.
Parent team
A team that contains one or more teams. Each team can have one parent team and can have multiple children teams. This helps you to set up your org structure.
Units
Units are another set of groups/teams based on the different entities of the company. These units are useful for large companies with different business groups or more than one offices in different locations. It is not mandatory to have units in your org structure. Read What are 'Units' and how to use them in UpRaise? for more details.
