Setting up SMTP for Office 365 using OAuth 2.0
ARN now supports modern & secure OAuth 2.0-based authorization for Microsoft Office 365 SMTP settings. The admin will be able to set up MS Office 365 SMTP from the ARN’s configurations page.
Check Setting up SMTP (to send emails via your company domain) for other service providers.
How to connect your email?
As Jira admin, go to App Menu from Jira settings >> Configurations under Automated Release Notes section >> SMTP tab
On the SMTP tab, select service provider as Office 365 from the dropdown
Select OAuth 2.0 authorization in Authorisation type
Add a Connection name (give a name that will help you identify the connected email account).
Click on the Connect your email button.
In the pop-up window add valid Office 365 email credentials of the email from which you wish to send ARN emails.
Authorize ARN app with the necessary permissions as mentioned in the pop-up.
That’s it, your Office 365 SMTP connection is now set up successfully.
Admin approval is required for enterprise accounts
If you are using Office365 enterprise account and you are trying to connect a non-admin email id then you will need approval from your email administrator. You will see the following screen on the grant permission screen.
Once you click on Request approval, your email administrator can approve the request from their Azure admin login.
Alternatively, you can use such an email Id that already has admin access, in that case above screen shall not appear.
How to revoke permissions given to ARN app?
Your email administrator can revoke the permissions given to ARN app through SMTP settings using the following steps.
Log in to the azure admin account on Microsoft Azure
Go to Azure active directory
From the left navigation, click on Enterprise applications
In the list of applications, click on Automated release notes for Jira
From the left navigation, under the Manage option click on Properties
Click on Delete to delete the app
That’s it, permissions given to the ARN app shall get revoked.
