How do UpRaise apps work?

Atlassian's Jira is a favourite tool (especially) for software development teams because of its flexibility to accommodate various use cases. The APIs & underlying frameworks allow for easy extension of Jira features. There is a burgeoning ecosystem of apps (previously add-ons, plugins) owing to this extensibility. 

UpRaise apps make use of the APIs available, to integrate with Jira seamlessly. It can not only insert its pages within Jira but also tightly couple with entities available in Jira such as projects, issues, users, sprints, and many more. Framework for development is different for Data center & Cloud add-ons, resulting in a few differences in the behavior of the two. These differences in some cases are purely technical whereas in others have a functional impact. 

Manage UpRaise app/s

Enable UpRaise app/s

When installed, UpRaise is enabled by default. For troubleshooting Jira, one can disable UpRaise. Disabled apps can be re-enabled easily.

Steps to enable

To enable UpRaise apps in your Jira instance:

  1. As a user with Jira administrative privileges, Navigate to >> Apps >> Manage apps.

  2. Find the relevant UpRaise app in the installed app’s list.

  3. Click the Enable button. Make sure that you enable the relevant app that you are using from UpRaise suite (Employee Success, People, Employee Garrison).

Disable UpRaise app/s

You can enable or disable UpRaise add-on/s by navigating to Manage apps section of Jira. Disabling the app makes its features unavailable in Jira, but it doesn't remove the app. Disabling the app is sometimes useful for troubleshooting Jira problems. If UpRaise app is disabled, it can be re-enabled later.

If you want to remove any of the UpRaise apps completely from your Jira then you may want to uninstall it.

Steps to disable

  1. As a user with Jira administrative privileges, navigate to >> Apps >> Manage apps. 

  2. Search for relevant UpRaise app in the installed apps list.

  3. Click on Disable. Make sure you disable the right add-on if you are using more than one UpRaise apps. 

  4. If prompted, restart your application to have your change take effect. Once UpRaise app is disabled, its features are immediately unavailable in Jira. If existing artifacts use the app, you may see an error message. 

Updating UpRaise app/s (only for Server/Datacenter apps)

Since UpRaise apps are integrated with Jira,  they can be updated by Jira administrators only. Here is relevant documentation.

Navigate to >> Apps >> Manage apps. Search for UpRaise app in the list. There will be a visual indication of whether any update is available. If it is, click on Update.

We recommend testing major upgrades on a staging environment first before promoting them on your product Jira.

Renew UpRaise app/s for Jira Data Center/Cloud version

UpRaise apps for Jira Data Center version

  • Navigate to   and login with your Atlassian account. 

  • Click on Renew tab.

  • You'll see the list of Atlassian software and apps that need to be renewed.

  • Click on the relevant UpRaise app that you want to renew and select relevant Jira tier and the next subscription duration, i.e. 12 months, 24 months or 36 months. 

  • Click on Add to cart and edit payment and contact details (if necessary)

  • Make the payment.

  • Once the payment is successfully done, you will receive your renewed UpRaise license via email.

UpRaise apps for Jira Cloud version

  • Monthly subscription

    • If you are on monthly subscription, you need not renew it as you will be charged automatically month on month. 

  • Annual subscription

    • If you are using UpRaise on annual subscription, then you can raise a quote on  .  

  • You can upgrade the tier of your host product and add-on licenses at any time. Upgrade prices are calculated based on Atlassian’s formula (view example).

Uninstalling UpRaise app/s

You can remove UpRaise app/s from your Jira from the Manage apps section. Uninstalling permanently removes the app from your application and file system. If you only want to temporarily remove it, you may choose to disable it instead.

Uninstalling an app removes it from Jira application. It also removes the JAR file from the application's home directory.

Please note that you can potentially lose your data on uninstalling the app. If you need to temporarily uninstall the app, first inform us via our support portal so we can retain your instance’s data temporarily.

Steps to uninstall

  1. Navigate to >> Apps >> Manage apps.

  2. Search with the key UpRaise. You will find the relevant UpRaise app in the app list.

    1. Make sure that you are uninstalling the relevant app if you are using more that one app from UpRaise suite. 

  3. Click on the row relevant to open its details view.

  4. Click the Uninstall button.

  5. Confirm the action by clicking Continue. When finished, a notice appears in the details view indicating that the app was successfully uninstalled.
